I'm Kitty Oden, and my husband Kyle and I make all the mouthwatering delights the Scratchmade Snackery has to offer you.
My mother was born and raised here in Hatteras Village, and I grew up visiting family here annually. The island holds a very special place in my heart, and I am so thrilled to have had the opportunity to bring my dreams to life.
From a very young age, I was infatuated with baking and I practiced every chance I got. Finally, after many years of working in a warehouse and just baking at home, I landed myself a position as a pastry chef at a fantastic seafood restaurant. I dove in to the work and soon after became inspired to pursue a degree in the field. It took me forever; working full time and schooling part time, but I graduated in 2012 with a 4.0 G.P.A. culinary degree in baking.
In 2013, the time came for me to occupy the homestead in Hatteras Village. So Kyle and I moved to Hatteras in 2014 with aim to open the Scratchmade Snackery. In January of 2015 we began renovating the building into the quirky little bakery you see today.
As the name implies, I’m a stickler for making everything from scratch. I find great happiness when people enjoy my creations. We make traditional French pastries, cinnamon rolls, cheesecakes, cookies, brownies, sourdough breads and more! Our menu can swell to over 60 items mid-summer! I’m always trying to fit just one more thing in the display cases! Stop in and see us when you come to the island!
